About Me
Currently, I teach with the International Studies and Languages Division at Seaver College, Pepperdine University as Visiting Assistant Professor of Asian Studies.
Before that, I was a postdoctoral teaching fellow with the Stanford University COLLEGE program, a lecturer with the Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford University, and an adjunct instructor with the MA in Asia-Pacific Studies at University of San Francisco. I have also taught Chinese history at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University.
In August 2019, I filed my dissertation, “Mutiny in Hunan: Writing and Rewriting the 'Warlord Era' in Early Republican Chinese History” with the History Department at the University of California, Berkeley.
I specialize in the political and military history of early 20th century China, and have additional teaching experience in East Asian history, world history, and film.
Prior to graduate school in the Bay Area, I spent significant time in Beijing, New York, Boston and Seattle.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife and son. I also support the Seattle Mariners and sometimes even enjoy doing that too.
